Quick Tip #20: The Golden Hour

Wonder why your landscape shots don’t look stunning like those postcards? It’s because by the time you wake up, have breakfast, and go out to your viewpoint, it’s already 11 AM in the morning! The sun is out bright, whitewashing everything.

The pros shoot landscapes only during two times of the day: sunrise and sunset. That’s it. It’s called the Golden Hour. That’s when the sun’s light is soft, and nature looks her best.

As you go along your journey in photography you will begin to realize that the key is to let light, and not your camera, do most of the work for you.
